CBD for the world and mental health naturally

Benefits of CBD, drug or supplement?

CBD is a wonder drug! CBD is a must have daily supplement – for you and Fido! Have you heard the headlines? Have you seen CBD advertised in your local boutique, or even the gas station on your last road trip?

What is it about those 3 magic letters that trigger so much hope? Or, is this all hype that you should ignore?

I have been a healthcare professional for 33 years, and for the past 4 years I have dedicated my career to discovering all I can about CBD and THC. An objective look at the potential of CBD & cannabinoids helps establish your goals and objectives around using it. First, let’s state a fact; CBD is one of the cannabinoids that make up the Cannabis Sativa plant. Researchers found that these plant molecules can mimic compounds we make in our own body that regulate balance. Why is this important, and why should you pay attention?

Natural foods and supplement markets develop nutraceuticals to boost your state of health or well-being, and to enhance or optimize your performance in life. CBD can fit into this market. Medical realms use a pharmaceutical approach to develop drugs to treat symptoms of illness and to try to heal underlying conditions. CBD can fit into this market too. All supplements and pharmaceuticals try to stimulate receptors in the body to activate health and healing. Either way, companies invest millions of dollars to help improve everyday life and basic functioning. Where does CBD fit into the mix – is it a supplement or is it a drug? The answer depends on how you use it, and we are just scratching the surface of its potential.

Hemp Fields are spreading across the nations ushering in a new era of wellness

CBD sits in a nexus of political, social, economic, medical, and health related issues that have not been fully addressed by our government. However, the US Government has indeed taken out patent protection on Cannabidiol, or CBD; (CBD Patent#), proof enough that CBD molecules are potent antioxidants and neuroprotectants. Americans for Safe Access publish condition based booklets  for many various conditions, stacking up research in curated bundles that helps us realize why we need to continue pursuing CBD as a multi-faceted solution.

Alcohol prohibition lasted from 1920-1933 whereas the medicinal benefits of Cannabis and its prohibition started in 1937 and is only now starting to lift.

History of Prohibition

Because of prohibition in 1937, official research has not come from the federal government. Much of the research on the effects from CBD have used cell cultures and mice instead of people, because of Schedule 1 restrictions. The 2018 US Farm Bill removed CBD from Schedule, leaving private industry to pursue innovative solutions. Epidiolex by GW Pharmaceuticals is an FDA approved CBD drug for epilepsy, and CBD supplements are here to stay. Private companies tout miracle cures, but the lack of a cohesive federal message leaves many confused. What can you believe, and why should the issue of CBD matter to you or your loved ones?

While we do not have clinical trials to reference with human subjects, we do have thousands of studies that point to the potential of CBD to influence and balance our biology. Scientists discovered this system is critical to the human nervous system, immune function, pain processing, moods, inflammation, appetite, digestion, sleep, and relaxation. CBD and the other (plant based) phytocannabinoids interact with our body by stimulating the receptors of the endocannabinoid system. If every human has an ECS and CBD and other phytocannabinoids from this plant can mimic our own molecules when we’re running low…how does that play out in human health? This is truly the million billion dollar question.

The prescription crisis has gotten completely out of hand. There are natural ways to help reduce sometimes unnecessary medications.

Pharmaceutical companies do well with blockbuster drugs to alter gene expression for people with rare diseases, and other new drugs that might help insulin work better in diabetic patients.

Medicine has not evolved much in treating the conditions that accumulate as we age, to just help us function better in everyday life. When was the last time you heard a new drug might help people be more mindful about what they were eating, or have a little more natural energy to promote movement? How many new drugs help relax the mind reducing fight or flight reactions without leaving you feeling drugged? Prior to the discovery of the endocannabinoid system, there was no path to alter health in this way, so no investment dollars were spent.

Daily disciplines using yoga, cold immersion, meditation and CBD can alter your day for the better.

Dr. Raphael Mechoulam, who pioneered medicinal cannabis research has been quoted to say, “Modulating endocannabinoid activity has clinical significance in almost all human disease”. (Clinical implications)  Research into CBD and other cannabinoids has data accumulating in Israel, and there is optimism that Professor Mechoulam is right in saying that CBD is protective to our nervous and immune systems. CBD may provide the signaling corrections to help you ward off the latest bacteria and viruses – critical in these times. Cannabinoids are antiviral and antibacterial, so adding a CBD tincture a wellness tool may provide extra protection.

CBD works in a very natural way, without side effects and without the potential to cause more damage than good like other RX. Crossing this fact with the lack of progress in traditional medicine to improve chronic conditions or general function, we see the enormous potential in using CBD to support our health. Which leads back to the initial point; “is CBD a supplement, or a pharmaceutical?” In my expert opinion, I believe it is both if it is grown organically without pesticides and contaminants, treated with good manufacturing processes, and tested for potency and purity. CBD options should include both full spectrum hemp extract 0.3% THC and broad spectrum 0.0% THC.

Plant medicines offer us effective natural alternatives to today's often side affect ridden pills.

CBD is a wonderful option to enhance wellness – focus, calm, balance, energy, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotectant, and antioxidant. It can help in hormonal adjustments to ease menopause and provide a better grounding to handle the increasing stressors of life. CBD is perfect before and after workouts – providing energy and anti-inflammatory effects so that exercise is enjoyed and repeated daily. Sexual health has been boosted by the overall wellness benefits of CBD and other cannabinoids, and that is a booming side of development.

CBD also needs to be adopted as a botanical medicine to treat conditions. I have personally guided hundreds of people to add CBD and other cannabinoids to their treatment plan witnessing improvements in sleep, digestion, pain reduction, anxiety, depression, PTSD. Neurodegenerative conditions like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and MS benefit from symptom reduction across the board. I have added CBD to my own daily regime and have reduced other pharmaceuticals. I feel stronger and better able to adapt, rest, and restore. With this context, I urge clients and clinicians alike to get better educated, and to consider adding CBD to daily life.
